TRADITIONAL IMPRESSION GUIDE
Impressions are at their best taken with custom trays, or at the very least with a steel tray
Always use adhesive when taking an impression, Impressions taken without adhesive could warp without it being noticed in either the surgery or laboratory
Be sure to check for any lines between the wash and putty. Should there be any lines and not a smooth flow, the bite of the restoration will be high. It would be wise to re-take the impression at this stage.
Please use alginate replacement impression material with a medium hardness for all opposing impressions
Opposing impressions should preferably be taken with either a custom tray or a steel tray.
Check all margins of the preparations in the impressions, A small feather of rubber around the margins the preparation will indicate that the margins are clear
Make sure to capture the full extension of the palate, ridges and flanges
All of the above would be true for implant impressions except for the feathering at the margins, instead, please check that the impression copings are fixed in the impression and are unable to move or rotate
